Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test on limits on Friday. She said she understands the material well, so we reviewed a couple of concepts before performing a review for the other test she is taking on Thursday. We covered a variety of questions and topics, including the law of cosines, a sum of two angles trig question, logarithms, finding inverse equations, and solving systems of equations."
"We started this session by working on a vocab review of last week's words. Since she is studying 50 new words per week, a weekly review will help to keep her on track. Additionally, she got almost every question from the review correct and that shows she is working outside of the sessions. The remainder of this session we worked on the writing section of the SAT. I started a new strategy for her to work on the essay portion, where she can practice mapping out her response in five minute intervals. This worked very well for her so we will continue to do this next Wednesday and add in completing the essay. We also worked on the multiple choice part of the writing section, sentence improving. The student does very well in this section so I think the practice she gets from the practice SAT tests she's doing on her own will be enough. I'd like to focus the remaining sessions on questions she struggles with. All in all, this was a very productive session."
"Today we went over a few basic concepts that the student had a relatively easy time understanding. We discussed basic percentage questions, the percent change formula, and percent notation. We also discussed negative numbers and the basic operations including inequality problems. Finally, we touched upon the divisibility rules which seemed very familiar to him. The material was simple, so he was confident in his abilities and scored over 75% on the majority of the sections we covered. I am trying to encourage elimination techniques so that he can do the simpler math problems at a quicker pace."
