Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by reviewing the student's spelling words for the week. She failed to capitalize a proper noun in the spelling quiz; this was her only error as she spelled all the words correctly. Then we reviewed initial consonant sounds SC and SK - the student was able to recall 3 words (scar, scared, scrape) that begin with SC and 2 words (sky, skate) that begin with SK from yesterday's learning activity. Then we worked on CH and SH. She did very well. We finished with TH and TW. Again, she did well coming up with words and spelling them out (twins, twice). I think the student really enjoys this type of learning as it challenges her to make use of her existing vocabulary and take the time to think about beginning sounds as well as the remaining sound(s) in the word. She put forth good effort today. "
"The student and I reviewed the persuasive speech that he has to give tomorrow in class. He worked on his diction and enunciation of words. We then discussed the points and themes of Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail," which will appear on his final exam."
"We did some writing exercises that concentrated on how to make sure the audience understands what you are saying exactly as you intend. The student practiced his handwriting to be more neat. We briefly went over future assignments and their due dates and how he will schedule himself to finish it on time. The student shows improvement."
"We began by reviewing a current chapter - 14.3(batting averages). We then moved back to cover the beginning of chapter 5(percents, fractions and mixed numbers). We will be covering the second half tomorrow. We finished off with chapter 8(surface areas). The student is doing great!"
"Today we went over the trigonometric functions and their definitions. We then examined the cosine and sine functions more closely, going over their periodicity, even VS odd function behavior and relation to the unit circle."
