Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered basic nutritional concepts. First, we started talking about macronutrients, protein, fats, and carbohydrates. Then we covered micronutrients and portion sizes. The student wanted to know more about age-appropriate serving sizes and nutritional needs. She was very glad to know about all of this information because with her nutritionist, she learned applicable concepts but needed a refresher on macro- and micronutrients. I included the use of acronyms, key concepts, and some images to further explain important concepts. I will email the student some supplemental information, graphics, and nutritional resources. I will also provide her with an outline of our session. In our next session, we will cover age-specific nutritional needs and recipe ideas. We will also cover some of the main concepts about human digestion and women-specific nutritional needs."
"The student and I covered acids and bases and thermochemistry. She knew a lot about both topics. I think her challenge was piecing together the information. Once I related acid base to another topic she covered in class, she felt more comfortable with solving related problems. She is great at algebra, which is very useful for chemistry. She was able to solve the problems after I explained them mathematically. I suggest she utilize her knowledge of math to make sense of chemistry."
"The student's physics is over except for the final, which is a ways away, so she wanted to get an early start on next year's chemistry. It looks like her assignment is mostly review, but the class itself will go into a lot more detail than her last chemistry class, so we studied some of the first new concepts."
"We worked through a problem involving kinematics equations and a problem that involved computing torques. The student has good fundamentals including physical reasoning, use of units, and good algebra skills."
"Today the student and I worked on questions from the electricity and circuits portion of his review, as well as some questions I prepared beforehand. He was a little rusty on momentum and energy but seemed well prepared for the rest. We will meet again this Thursday to prepare one last time before his final this Friday and get the momentum and energy problems ironed out."
"We reviewed for her final exam in algebra by going through the questions in a review packet that she had trouble with, and going over more examples either from the textbook or that I made up. We focused specifically on logarithms/exponents, probability, and factoring higher order polynomials. She needed some guidance, but was able to complete many problems on her own afterwards."
