Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over more questions on the math practice test. As we did them, we also talked about the larger concepts and added formulas and concepts to his "study sheet." We covered circles, absolute values, inequalities, the distance formula, fractions, trig, Pythag theorem, special triangles, area, volume, and surface area. We will continue in this way next week, starting with a review of exponents. We will also finish going over the test questions. He will also complete a reading passage and sign up for the April ACT."
"The student had previously taken the ACT without knowing much about it. We discussed areas of strength and areas of weakness and then I gave her basic test taking strategies and ways to approach the math and science sections. We also talked about the differences between the ACT and SAT. Then we started working through a Math practice test. As we worked through problems and I showed her how to use what she did know and could reason, she realized she was capable of answering most of the questions. We discussed a few math concepts that were a bit rusty and I had her work through problems she didn't know how to solve. I suggested she look at the rest of the problems and see if she has any questions for our next session. She said she felt a lot more confident just after the one session."
"We completed a science section during which the student taught me how to do various questions. We then completed a timed science section. We discussed keeping each passage to 5 minutes because timing is still somewhat of an issue. I also gave her math homework based on her last math diagnostic test."
