Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Finished working on end-of-semester study guide. The student is very adept at the concepts with few exceptions (i.e., identifying SOHCAHTOA problems)."
"The student and I reviewed his final review packet, reviewing properties of parallelograms, rectangles, squares, rhombuses, trapezoids, diagonals, angle relationship of parallelograms and trapezoids."
"The student is preparing for a summative, which is his last test for the school year. The summative is covering surface area of rectangular prisms, cylinders, trapezoids and squares. We went through his review packet noting problems he had trouble with. I encouraged the student to be more organized with these problems, since there are many parts and if he messes up the beginning it will then mess up the remainder of the problem. He seemed very knowledgeable of the material. I made the student write out the formulas for every problem he did, plug in each value, and then plug it into his calculator. I told him this would help his find his mistakes when he checked his work because he can go back to the problem and look at the numbers he used instead of just plugging it all in on his calculator and trying to do it in his head. He was informed that this is what he needs to do tomorrow for his test as well, no matter how easy the problem appears; he needs to write out all the steps. I also left him with a couple worksheets he can use for practice."
"We covered polygons and calculating areas and circumferences of circles. The student's final will take place on Friday of this week. In our remaining session, we will ensure she is prepared for her final exam."
"The student and I reviewed for his final test this upcoming Thursday. We reviewed topics including power theorems, trigonometry utilizing sine, cosine and tangent, as well as the laws of sines and cosines. We talked about multiple solution methods to a few of the problems. Overall, he is on pace to score very well on his final."
"The student and I went over finding area of composite shapes (like houses etc.) as well as probability of different situations. She was initially unsure of the probability, but after doing a couple of them, could do them all with ease."
