Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met for our first session of the semester. Since he is taking community college classes this spring, we worked on one of his assignments for class. We brainstormed an outline for a paper on time management due the next day. We talked about how important it is to manage time wisely by cutting out distractions and creating a schedule, as well as asking others to help keep him accountable. "
"The student had a math homework assignment that took up most of the session. The assignment was mostly about problems related to tables and patterns. The student was distracted during much of the assignment and it took some time. We then reviewed the math test. He did a free-write on what his mindset was when he received the test and his test habits. We discussed some strategies that could help him stay more focused during the test and he noted them down on a sheet of paper."
"The student and I started this session by going over class notes. After going over the notes, which were on section 7-6 (multiplying polynomials), I helped him with his homework. By the end of his homework, he could utilize both methods for multiplying polynomials without difficulty. We ended the session by looking ahead to the next section, which deals with dividing a polynomial by a monomial. The student picked up on this very quickly, and by the end of our session he could complete rather complex divisions almost entirely in his head."
"The student and I met from 3:25-5:25. We discussed the Biology and Stat midterm reviews and also looked at the stat concepts regarding correlation. We discussed the definition of correlation in biological and statistical terms and which set of conditions define weak, moderate, or strong correlations."
"We are continuing to work on the student's mastery of basic facts of addition within a three minute time frame. With constant practice, he will be able to add 100 problems in less than 3 minutes. Also working on place value and comparing numbers to piggyback off of his school work."
"The student's grades have improved three letter grades since we started tutoring a month ago! For this session, we read four passages on mistakes that led to historic discoveries. He then wrote an essay with my guidance and grammatical edits. He received another A on last week's history homework that he completed. He is improving drastically and his concentration and retention is continually getting better."
