Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a chemistry test coming Monday, so we reviewed vocabulary (the different branches of chemistry and the scientific method). We also completed her workbook pages in Spanish over verbs with irregular conjugation in the first person. I checked her answers to her chemistry questions from class as well as her geometry packet up to #28. As of right now, her upcoming quizzes are in religion and in history on Monday."
"The student and I had our last session today. We kept working on her Algebra 2 review packet, though we weren't able to finish the entire thing. We got through logs, exponents, and graphing rational expressions, which I think was a really good use of our time. We also talked about some of the things she would want to put on her notecard of things to take into the test with her."
"We are doing several sessions this week to make sure she is familiar with all of the types of questions and topics that could be thrown at her. We focused on math. There were a few concepts that we needed to review, including systems of equations and how to solve quadratics. We also did a quick grammar review and discussed essay planning. Next session, I will have her write a timed practice essay."
"The student and I worked on Lesson 6. She read from a list of words out loud and was able to identify the words ending in "e" and words with a short or long "e" sound at the end of the word. Next, she worked on a multiplication sheet where she had to color in the spaces that corresponded with the answer key. Lastly, the student and I came up with a song to help her memorize her multiplication facts easier."
"The student finished diagnostic assessment test and started first practice book. She did passage reading, vocabulary, and sentence completion problems. Did math problems as well. She has the first practice assessment test to finish. The student has a good handle on the math; she just needs practice to learn the tricks to assessment test math problems. She is doing adequately with vocabulary, and has quickly picked up on the common test sentence correction problems with subject verb agreement when clauses separate the subject from the verb, misplaced modifiers, and parallelism."
"We worked through problem questions on logical reasoning from the student's most recent practice test, revealing strategies for dealing with problems when the meaning of one of the words is obscure to you. We also reviewed the logic games setup strategy for the first two games, and I directed the student to the relevant section of the review book and then to the video for the second game, emphasizing the importance of making game setups look like something you've seen before and using the memorized inference patterns."
