Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued working with written and oral use of subjunctive verbs in our session, focusing this time on using them in the 3rd person rather than 1st person. We also continued to work with examples and non-examples of proper use of accents and gender agreement. Towards the end of the session, we also practiced verbal use of irregular past participles (hecho, dicho, puesto, etc.)"
"The student had a very good session and is showing noticeable improvement in many categories, especially in geometry. She has been putting a lot of work in outside of our sessions, and it really shows. We have another session tomorrow where we will continue reviewing practice tests."
"Reviewed topics covered earlier on the week. Worked on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Moved on to using the method of borrowing to subtract and manipulate fractions, as well as working on the method and patterns for reducing fractions."
"The student and I were able to discuss the content that she was tested on Wednesday, and clarify any remaining questions she had such as d=rt and solving direct and indirect problems. We were also then able to work on the homework for the evening. We discussed graphing and how to solve equations, then graphed them. We also found the area, perimeter, and volume of objects using algebraic equations. After helping her set up the equation in a manner that the units would match in the end, she was able to better understand the concept of unit conversion."
"We had a very successful time working in math today, as I devised a game called "Giraffe" to motivate student to solve her problems and learn to write numbers. I'm trying to show her that all numbers (in our decimal system) operate as base 10, and so she really only needs to be comfortable with 1-9 and then being able to add 20, 30, 40 etc."
"Today we covered revolutions (French and American), industrial revolution, imperialism and colonialism around the globe. This brings us to 1900 and the final period. The student is doing a great deal of work to prepare for the AP and is very much engaged with the material, asking a lot of good questions."
