Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed hypothesis testing. We emphasized how to evaluate the results of a p-value, z-statistic, and t-statistic. This covered sections 9.4-9.6 in her online course book. Next week we will study hypothesis testing with 2 samples."
"The student and I covered his poster presentation of The Catcher in the Rye. We discussed his thesis statement, focusing on ways in which his argument could be rewritten in order to better address the prompt. We also went through the supporting quotations, considering their suitability and fine tuning the written explanations/interpretations."
"The student had a worksheet that required him to factor approximately 20 problems. He stated he needed further instruction on how to approach the concept. I explained my techniques and went through some simple self-made examples. He seemed to be very receptive to my method and we started working through the problems on his worksheet. Factoring is not an easy concept to learn and it's going to take some practice before he is at a level where he can do problems completely on his own. I did most of the problems on the worksheet on a separate piece of paper and gave it to his dad before I left. I told him to try all the problems on his own. If he gets stuck, he could use my work as a guide."
"We discussed her midterm paper assignment in depth and she selected a topic. We then structured her arguments and she rearranged some of her previous writing in to the new paper format. The student told me about her ideas and I took notes, repeating to her what I heard as her primary points and she then elaborated once we had those main points structured into an outline for the paper."
"The student and I went over his quiz review, and we completed his worksheet over data analysis. He seems to be getting a better understanding of the mean, median, mode, range, IQR, and MAD."
"The student and I met for our final session before his GRE test. We first went over general strategy for test day. We then went through a verbal reasoning section which he performed fairly well on given the difficulty of the questions. For most of the session we focused on math problems. He has greatly improved in his competency in this area. We went over the few problems he struggled with and I wished him well for test day."
