Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had recently taken a practice SAT, so we were able to go through questions she had missed and was having trouble understanding. In the math section, we went over strategies for translating the language of a question into its correct mathematical representation. This included identifying keywords and using common-sense inquiry to quickly test models of the problem. In the Critical Reading and Writing sections, we practiced distinguishing the best answer from other plausible answers by privileging what is actually in the text over logical embellishment of it. We were also able to identify a misinterpretation of a whole class of questions in the Writing section that should prevent similar errors in the future. She is planning on doing another practice test before the next meeting, so we will have a chance to see how today's session affects her performance."
"During our final session before the student took the SAT, we reviewed all the strategies that she's built over the last three months. We discussed her initial challenges and how she's improved in those areas. We also went over how to prepare mentally and physically over the next couple of days before taking the test. Finally, I gave her some advice on the college application and essay process."
"The student and I started on the algebra portion of the math section. We went through practice problems from an SAT prep book I like to use. Next, I would like to focus on the writing portion of the SAT, specifically the grammar questions. Then I would like to do a review of the words she studied last week."
