Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we again reviewed what the student learned in class and did problems. Like always, we also reviewed the sections that he will cover the following week."
"Today we worked through the student's homework regarding various derivative rules. He has started the "meat and bones" of derivatives. He was able to tell me all of the rules he has learned thus far (power rule, product rule, and quotient rule). He seems to have a good understanding of each and how to apply each rule by itself. In applying multiple rules at the same time, we discussed how he needs to approach each problem remembering that all concepts he's learned can be applied. He was able to work through the problem correctly after I explained this and was able to work through subsequent problems that he encountered. He is getting much better at asking questions when he is slightly unsure, which helps us address his issues early on. He is showing a good understanding of the new material, and I have reiterated that it is important he slow down and double-check his work. And I have also emphasized the necessity to write out all of his steps."
"We covered implicit differentiation and related rates. I saw her doing better with differentiation. I left her with related rates problems and extra practice with trig functions."
"The student and I worked on preparation for an upcoming test. We reviewed a number of topics, including optimization problems and walked through the steps. He has a good general grasp of the topics. Some of these problems involve multiple steps, so a student will need to be careful about not making errors in any of these steps along the way."
"Today, we covered Lessons 6.1-6.3, which deal with maximizing area/volume and business applications of calculus. After we did a few of these, the student seemed to understand fully how to perform these problems flawlessly. He had a positive attitude during this session, which helped us move at a good pace and even do some extra study problems. At the end of the session, I told him what he had little problems on throughout our review and gave him small tips so that he remembers how to do these on the quiz tomorrow (very minor details). I think that he is very knowledgeable with this chapter, and I expect for him to perform well on the quiz tomorrow."
"We covered basic algebra skills, numerical problems, and a few more complex number problems. Then, we started doing problems involving sequences and series."
