"I met with the student on Friday, and because we did reading and writing the previous week, we covered math then. I had her do practice math problems before our meeting, so we went through all of them. I can tell she's starting to recall what she did in Algebra I, and when I explain problems to her, she understands them. She still needs to familiarize herself with how the exam asks questions, though. We did some more practice problems and I focused a bit on geometry for her because she needed the most help on those rules. For now, we are not working on speed for the math, as the first order of business is for her to get comfortable with the math portion and have a broad understanding of what kind of questions it asks and how to do them."
"The student had taken a full practice ACT with time limits. He got an average score of 31 which is 4 points higher than his last one! His English section was almost perfect. He had the most trouble with Math. Time was definitely an issue for him, so we discussed ways to quicken his pace. We went over all the questions he had gotten wrong in each section and he understood his mistakes well. We then did some Math practice on the website which he did very well on. He will write a practice essay for next time."
"She continued with her diagnostic exams, completing the reading and science section of the exam. She scored fairly well for her first time, 32 and 28 respectively on English and Reading. We will be continuing her test taking skills and strategies at our next lesson."
