Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued our review of and practice with ACT Math concepts. This is obviously a strong subject for both students, as both disposed of each exercise quickly and accurately. I accelerated the pace of the unit accordingly, and we were able to follow up the initial exercises with almost all of a sample Math section. We discussed a few different test-taking strategies to employ in case of problematic questions. Based on my observations in session, time management should not be an issue for either, though some independent practice will be assigned to make sure (as well as to familiarize them with the content as much as possible without taking too much time out of our sessions). Very positive about the work both students showed on this section, and we're back on schedule in terms of overall pace. Great session."
"We're slowly pushing into the 34-36 range; she is a very strong student who consistently tries hard and performs her best. At this point, her timing is great, so we're just going to continue pushing for a few more questions each week. I expect an exceptional score from her."
"The student showed and explained a comic that he created. Then he worked on sentence completion. His skills using inference clues and reference words has improved to proficiency. Out of 20 questions, he answered 18 correctly. Next, we focused on math skills and solving problems dealing with geometric shapes. He has become better at substituting what he already knows into a provided formula for each the sphere and cone. The student has also improved solving inequalities and absolute value problems. After math, I quizzed him on 45 words he had learned in previous sessions. He can define about half of them with proficiency, a quarter of them using an example, and another quarter of the words he doesn't know well. He said he will study the words he is unclear about before our next session. Lastly, the student and I reviewed Greek and Latin roots, and he provided a word containing each root listed."
