Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight we went through some difficult problems that the student found in the practice AP Calculus exam packet. Specifically, they were difficult problems involving tangent line to a function, more exponential derivatives, and horizontal asymptotes from limits approaching infinity. We also talked about series notation and about the concept of infinity."
"We began reviewing for the student's test on Thursday. We covered derivatives and integrals of a variety of types of functions. We also practiced with derivatives and integrals of trig functions, implicit differentiation, and slope fields. This exam covers a large quantity of material. I am going to put together a worksheet of practice problems for tomorrow's session."
"For this session we started with a practice final exam in algebra II. We transitioned into Geometry with arcs formed by central and inscribed angles, and he did well. For homework, I am going to put together a compilation of problems he needs to focus on."
"Today we kept on reviewing trigonometric functions and sequences. For trigonometric functions, the worksheets focused on corresponding functions (i.e. sin (60) = cos (30)). This part of the worksheets went well, and she moved rather quickly through it. We then moved on to sequences, and went over induction proofs on formulas for sum of sequences. I told her she needs to keep practicing these proofs to at least memorize the set up. Her next exam is on Friday."
"In today's session with the student, we reviewed his probability quiz which he received a 90% on, and followed that up with an introduction to graphing polynomials. The student is always eager to learn more and figure out his mistakes in order to prevent them from happening again, and that kind of determination is very important in a student. We reviewed how to use complementary probabilities. After this practice, we moved to graphing polynomials and understanding how to find the vertex of a parabola. Lastly, we reviewed his homework problems on sequences and the student appears to have a great handle on that. Tomorrow, we will meet to further prepare him for his test on Wednesday. I look forward to helping the student study for his exam."
"The student began the square root unit this week, and her homework was to create flash cards to help memorize the perfect squares. After she created them, we reviewed the meaning of the concept square root, and we went through the flashcards together as a study method. She also received her previous math test back (where she earned a 95%. Overall, she is doing an amazing job with developing her math skills!"
