Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered solving quadratic equations by completing the square and factoring. She picked up on these topics very well and successfully completed her homework. I had to explain that the answer had to be reduced to the fractions and square roots that resulted."
"The student and I reviewed for her math quiz with a game her teacher put online. She did well in every category, from easy to difficult. She feels comfortable with this unit. They have had enough quizzes on the material that it's not a struggle. We briefly went over some of her chemistry for a quiz she had there, and then we spent some time strategizing how we would use our last three sessions for her finals prep."
"Graphing functions using first and second derivatives, including extrema, roots, vertical horizontal and slanted asymptotes. The student understands the material. He just has to practice a few problems all the way through from the beginning to get comfortable."
"Her parents wanted us to review her previous night's ELA homework. The student had to answer two questions, which required a knowledge of 1st, 3rd point of view, and types of writing (prose, poetry, song). She had not learned these terms in school, so we spoke about it so she will be prepared for such questions in the future.
We studied for her geometry test by reviewing types of angles, triangles, polygons, and vocabulary. We practiced problems with symmetry and coordinate points. She knows the material."

"First I did a diagnostic to evaluate at what level the student's math skills were. Subsequently, I taught her the Distributive Property of Algebra. I taught her how to multiply by the reciprocal. We did practice problems together. I looked in her textbook to find analogous problems for her to do later."
"Today we reviewed the linear regression topics on the student's review sheet. I outlined the general equation for linear regression, and showed her how to get the parameters from the independent and dependent variables. We also discussed correlation and the correlation coefficient. I think we made some progress today. She seems pretty comfortable using the calculator to find certain values based on a data set. I left her with a couple linear regression problems to try on her own so we can see how well these topics were absorbed."
"Did a final review over her class material testing for comprehension of chapter sections and lessons. Gave her problems that would test each section worth of knowledge or multiple sections at the same time. Practiced each problem type until she was able to do each problem with no issue. Made a couple note sheets for her to look back over as well at the same time."
"Reviewed incorrect answers from recent quiz to understand why the student got them wrong. Went over new homework material. The student is showing major improvement in math and has been getting A's on her math quizzes. We also covered science."
"Tonight, the student and I reviewed her homework assignments. She had a significant amount of homework which covered factoring and finding a common denominator, and then factoring further. The problems were fairly complex, but once I showed her an example, she was able to understand how to solve the remainder of the problems. Overall, she has an excellent understanding of the material."
"We went over a 40 question practice exam that is supposed to be very close to her final exam tomorrow. I had her work each problem on her own and corrected any mistakes she made along the way. She also put down a number of notes about each problem to help her study. The student has shown a lot of improvement since the first session and felt confident for tomorrow's exam."
"Worked with the student today; she has an exam on graphing inequalities this Friday. For homework she had a review packet that we went through. She seems to be picking up on the explanations on the questions she has trouble with."
"The student certainly seems more confident in his homework this time. This session we completed the homework assigned for the week and practice long division. He does well with mathematical process and is able to quickly and clearly form a plan on how to solve the problem. He can quickly pick out parts of a nine digit number. He has no trouble with inequalities or patterns either.
At the end of this session we drilled the steps and practiced labeling the parts of division problems within word problems and standalone division problems."
