"The student and I focused on a variety of skills today. We worked on vocabulary, comprehension, context clues, citing evidence, writing in complete sentences, main idea, details, and restating the question when answering. She and I wrapped up a unit that we had been working on. She answered comprehension questions about the text that were a combination of multiple choice and questions that required written responses. At first she struggled with the written response section that required her to identify the main idea and support it with details from the text. Yet, after we practiced, she seemed to catch on quickly. Wins during our session included the student being able to quickly use context clues to figure out vocabulary words and her comprehension!"
"The student worked on her English homework, where she had to read a short story by Edgar Allen Poe. As she listened to the audio recording online, I had her write notes on the most important information. She answered questions as she was prompted, and I helped her with ideas. She did fine overall."
"Today, we prepared for the student's test on the play Antigone. -We went over the characters in the play. -We reviewed the background information: the gods the play honored, author, function of the chorus, purpose of the prologue, purpose of the ode. The student had to describe Creon's decree to me in preparation for his test. We discussed and identified character motivations, conflicts, etc. We discussed motifs, and the student was instructed to find quotes and cite evidence related to: Law, Fate, and Pride. I left the student with some resources to use for supplemental material for additional practice and studying."
