Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I mostly covered science with her since she has a test tomorrow. I went over Constellation and Stars; we read from her book and online. I made notes on the stars she has to remember. She took 5 different quizzes on different sites online and performed well. I left her the notes to review again tonight. As for math, I helped her to solve the assignments; she converted units to complete each equation, completed the conversion tables and problem solving/test practice."
"During yesterday's session, the student and I completed her spelling practice and her math homework. Her spelling exercise consisted of looking each word up in the dictionary and writing its definition next to the word. I read some of the definitions aloud, and noticed that spelling is an area that I would love to work on with her, including building her confidence in recognizing the spelling of words when she hears them spoken aloud. She completed her math homework (which focused on step counting backwards and forwards by set intervals), and between now and next session I have plans to connect with her math teacher to get a clear sense of what she would like me to focus on with her."
"Tonight we worked on the student's open book religion test. She had already completed it but I had her show me where she found the answers in the book and only had to make two corrections. We also reviewed for her math test and a couple of her spelling words that she had trouble with."
"The student had math homework on the concept of Angles. He had worksheet on Finding Unknown Angles Measures and to Join and Separate Angles. We went over the concept of Measures of Angles on a Straight Line and Angles within a Circle. He was able to complete his worksheets. Next we reviewed Reading Punctuation - Rewriting Sentences with Capitalization, Apostrophe, Commas, Question Mark, Exclamation and Period. His attitude was receptive towards the material covered."
"The student's math homework for this session involved basic algebra. She had to look at a table of numbers, write the equation, and fill in any missing numbers. The homework also gave equations that she was required to graph. She did well with this material and seemed to enjoy doing it. Afterwards, we worked on her spelling packet. She wrote a paragraph with her spelling words, which I corrected afterwards. She did great on this portion as well! We then finished her reading log. She wrote her analysis. After it was complete I went through it, making spelling corrections and suggestions on how to improve her statement, background, and analysis paragraphs. She is a great writer with creative ideas. For the last 10 minutes of the session we read."
"We covered his math and English homework. He had multiplication problems for Math, which he completed mostly by himself. He understands how to solve the problems. For his English assignment, he had to define words using the dictionary. We went over that and his new vocabularies. During this session, I saw an improvement in his level of focus."
"We spent today's session doing some catchup. We began by going over surface area and volume of rectangular shapes. I went over these concepts a little bit when we did prep for the test, so it wasn't totally foreign to her. Most of our session was dedicated to science though. We went over Anatomy, specifically the digestive and respiratory systems. I instructed her to continue to study the material over the weekend."
"We covered addition and subtraction of mixed fractions. Our session included practice problems similar to those we have reviewed in previous sessions. The student's class has started to review decimals, a subject we will cover next time. No concerns to note."
"For our second session, the student and I worked on more reading and math content. We focused on decomposing fractions, which she was able to pick up after working with some fraction manipulatives. She had requested time to work on prefixes and suffixes, so she completed a short pre-assessment so I know where she is currently performing with that content. The student was very focused on pleasant the entire time, and she loves to show me things that she does know already. We reviewed her multiplication tables to pick out the ones she needs a bit more practice on to make them as fluent as the rest of the math facts."
"She wanted to study for her joint science/ math test on measurements. We reviewed her science notes on units to measure volume, mass, and length. She has a good concept of the size of each unit. We also reviewed area and perimeter from her math lessons, particularly area of composite figures. We had a little time to finish her spelling homework and for me to quiz her for her religion test."
"We completed the student's homework, which involved estimating multiplication problems involving a large number and a single-digit number and then solving the problem. We practiced the same skill on a math website and finished with her playing the math game on my computer that she likes. She is understanding the multiplication material and has an "A" in math."
"Completed her math homework focusing on fractions. Worked on English homework and focused on different types of sentences. Managed to finish the worksheets for history so that we review it during our next session to prepare for Thursday's test."
