Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on making corrections to the paper #1 first draft, to be submitted on Thursday. We began by checking the MLA requirements for citing material and spent the rest of the session proofreading and correcting grammar and style issues in the body of the paper."
"Geometry: cognitive tutor. The student is beginning to understand proofs, but using the computer-based cognitive tutor program is a challenge, particularly when linking prerequisites to new statements. Will need to help with organization."
"Today, the student led me through a lesson on hyphens and commas. By letting him read the material, I've been able to prepare him better for each lesson and attempt to catch and correct my mistakes. This demonstrates, in my opinion, a more thorough knowledge of the subject. Afterwards, we practiced hyphenating syllables and checking ourselves with a dictionary. This was good practice in using a dictionary since electronic versions are more accessible for children his age. His homework is to practice and review material from the very last chapter in his book as we begin to move on to a new strategy."
"The student and I met from 1-2:35. We worked on his Algebra test review, which covered polynomial functions with discontinuities. We went over finding holes, vertical and horizontal asymptotes, as well as graphing the functions. We also looked at a few application problems using the same concept."
"Continued working on factoring trinomials and binomials. The student is doing very well. We'll do a quick review on factoring polynomials next week and move on to solving quadratic equations by factoring."
"The student did quite a few homework problems and did not get stuck more than once or twice. Again, the majority of her issues were small issues we will have to work out, such as subtracting instead of adding. I did show her a few tricks to remember which to do. By the end of the session she was doing problems completely solo and quickly."
"The student has a test next week and wants to start preparing early. She has a great grasp on the material and is working really hard. Some verb conjugations are still difficult but she had a better grasp on them at the end of the session and I'm sure with out session next week will be prepared for the exam."
"Helped the student with her reading homework. Continued to ready chapter book to help develop fluency and comprehension in grade level text. Working on being able to self-correct and sound out words that are unfamiliar to her."
"Today we reviewed for her Biology final exam. We covered the material that was on the first two exams and then spent time on genetics. We also found out that she had passed Chemistry for the semester."
"On this date, the student and I began with a reading comprehension packet titled, "Soccer-Inside," and answered questions relating to the text. In math, we completed a review worksheet in preparation for the upcoming test on input/output tables and solving inequalities. We ended the session completing a science worksheet on "The Greenhouse Effect.""
"The student and I discussed the hard congruence problem from last session. I left him with the original problem which included the congruence problem as the first step. He took a test and will get results back next Tuesday. We worked on his homework assignment which covered isosceles and equilateral triangles."
"The student and I worked on arithmetic for the GRE as well as general test prep strategies. She is taking a practice exam for homework before our next session in order to accurately assess the critical areas of improvement."
