"For this first meeting we just talked about differential equations since he has a test coming up. We actually didn't solve many since his test is apparently only about numerical methods like Euler and their qualitative features. In particular, we studied the logistic equation and how it can be used to model growth/decay. This stuff was pretty basic so it didn't give him any trouble."
"For the first session, we covered a couple topics for the student's upcoming test. We went over inference and statistical power, addressing the understanding of the concepts, and then working on some practice problems together. His main question was understanding how to define what power means and how it is useful. He completed the problems successfully and showed a good understanding of statistical power."
"The student took his test and said that he made an 49. He said that he didn't study outside of the time that he spent studying with me. He needs to study more on his own and I am worried he might not be able to pass the class anymore. However, I was excited to see the progress he'd made on some of the homework problems. They were hard problems and he was doing a good job of working on them on his own despite a few errors with negatives."
"We went over some corrections that needed to be made from the student's prior test. We looked at a common problem of converting fractions to decimals and percents, as well as getting the percent of a number. I showed the student how to turn the percent into a decimal, and then multiply that number by the percent as a decimal. I left him some notes on both concepts. We then went over his current homework which was on area and perimeter of squares, rectangles, and triangles. He seemed pretty strong on these concepts."
"The student and I worked more on critical thinking and process development with graphical problems that required his analysis. He worked on problems to determine the area of irregular shapes by parsing them up into shapes whose areas he knew how to calculate. We also worked on developing arithmetic shortcuts on problems with positive and negative integers."

"The student and I went over finite mathematics and an overview of all linear algebra programming techniques for his test. We went over specific ways to take the math test under time constraints and how to be thorough enough to receive full credit on any question. We also discussed conceptual theories about linear algebra so he could understand the operations in matrix equations and transformations on a deeper level, thereby offering him an explanation of all the steps used in a matrix manipulation."
"We reviewed the whole chapter on integration for the student's test. He did well with antiderivatives when the functions were in the right form. I quizzed him on the conversion process, and he did better than previous sessions. We also covered the difference between finding total area of a shaded region versus integration over an interval."
"The student and I had our first session today. He is significantly behind on his homework and I think this is at the root of his troubles in the class. Moving forward, our goal is going to be to keep up with existing homework assignments. Once that is complete, we will use the remainder of the sessions to complete older assignments. The student has the potential to do very well in this algebra 2.

"The lesson today revolved around max/min of quadratic functions and using the quadratic formula to understand the behavior of functions. Solving for x intercepts brought up some old topics and was a good review. We also discussed methods of graphical analysis that would make interpreting graphs easier for the student. We also covered an optimization problem today that was a very nice example of real world math."
"We reviewed the first part of chapter six on emphasizing ratios, proportions, and unit rates. After some warmup and reintroduction to problemsolving methods he got back into the swing of things."

While working through the problems I noticed that most of her mistakes came from not knowing her unit circle or dividing by fractions incorrectly, so I gave her some more practice problems from her book. She was aware of her previous mistakes and fixed them while working on the new problems."
