Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I went over the differences between the "por" and "para" prepositions. After we worked on exercises in her workbook together, she seemed to understand the differences better. These also included utilizing the future tense, which she understands well. I'm emailing her teacher for a clean copy of the por/para quiz so we can go over it next Saturday at our next session."
"What an awesome session! The student did what he needed to do and studied tenses at home. We were able to get so much more done today. He has a quiz tomorrow that he feels really good about. We spent the first 20 minutes of the session practicing with the tense that will be on the quiz so he knows how to identify it and the formula to use. Then we did some review and more memory tricks for different verb tenses and forms. It always feels good to hear that he understands things much better now that he has tutoring. Big win today!"
"Today, we covered the subjunctive mood and the conditional tense while making sure to include the athletic vocabulary that the student has been assigned in class. He has a test coming up on Friday, so to prepare, we worked on translations into and from Spanish in the subjunctive mood. We also worked on a few fill-in-the-blanks in the conditional tense."
"We covered the present perfect and past perfect tenses and synonyms of phrases and verbs. The student was very enthusiastic and optimistic. She was engaged in the activities and learning the materials. We tried repetition, memorization, and makeshift exercises to practice comprehension. I just advised her to review the worksheets completed during the session. I felt sure that she understood the concepts and grammar being taught fully."
"We worked on food words. We played a game where each of us had to describe a food without saying the word and the other had to guess what it was. We also had general conversations about school, friends, and meals."
"Today, the student and I reviewed formal affirmative commands and did some practice. We also did several activities (both written and spoken) to practice new vocabulary recently gone over in class. We also did a brief review and activity with irregular informal commands. He picks up on vocabulary very easily, but I think he needs a little practice with basic sentence structure. I plan to have some extra practice with these grammar concepts if we have time left over in our next session. We also went over some test-taking strategies for fill in the blank type questions. I think if he takes his time to completely read and assess the questions, he should have much less trouble with future exams."
