Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on an advertisement evaluation, looking at the elements of the ad that made it either effective or distracting and ineffective. The student wrote a 10-sentence review. We also reviewed triangles, perimeter, and area. I went through a few samples with her and she was able to complete her math homework more accurately."
"I am extremely pleased with the student's progress. Per my suggestion, he always takes a moment to really think about his answer before giving it. As a result, he gets even more questions correct -- this is a valuable skill that I think will benefit him. Since he rarely tries to guess questions, he has become a lot more confident in his answers and more motivated to learn new things. He can now effectively understand the differences between adjectives, verbs, and nouns, and he can identify them. In this regard, he is at least a grade above his level. This was a very good session, one of the best."
"We started by reading a short nonfiction text. There were questions that followed. We talked about how to go back in the text and find the answers to the questions. I showed the student how to underline where we find the answers, and how to use text features to help us as well. We then worked on her math facts and worked on the multiplication coloring activity that we started last week."
"During this session, we worked on a research paper. The student read the article and highlighted important topics before I arrived. Through an outline provided by her teacher, we carefully went through each question and were able to work on the research paper."
"The student and I solidified his knowledge of prefix and suffix. He completed one of his math homework assignments. We also went over his spelling, which he has already improved on from earlier this week. We also played some games on the 3rd grade level, which he did well on. Going forward I think the lessons definitely need to be focused on challenging him, because he does exceptionally well on his grade-level material."
"We covered dangling modifiers and how to correct them. We also covered oxymorons. We spent a lot of time going over higher level root words, prefixes, and suffixes. The student did well. Her English is improving weekly!"
