Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the various types of trig substitution: sin, sec, and tan. It's a long and complex process, so I highly recommend practicing it. We briefly touched on finding the length of a line defined by parametric equations."
"We evaluated several types of problems with definite integrals. We covered linear property of definite integrals, addition of areas by boundary, and the geometric definition of definite integral. In physics, we looked into unit conversions, significant figures, and basic math. We also were able to practice a few SAT test questions in preparation for the student's upcoming SAT test. She is picking up speed in her calculus knowledge, and is totally up to speed in physics."
"Today, we covered the chain rule, implicit differentiation, and log differentiation. The student seemed slightly uncomfortable with the material, however, a little review helped him understand more fully. A win from this session was an improved understanding of the chain rule. He was doing well at all the concepts by the end of the session. I did see some great signs of progress in microeconomics, as he scored well above the class average on the first exam."
"We started finding the derivative of a function. We went through the rules of derivatives including sum of, product of, quotient of, and etc. The student quickly caught on to the concepts. He could correctly answer the question with little intervention. He should continue to do problems to increase his understanding of the material."
"Today the student and I covered line integrals including finding the work. We worked on 4 problems that he struggled on in his test review. We will be meeting again Thursday morning before his exam to go over last minute questions."
"Today, the student and I reviewed topics from Chapter 2 of her text on rules for evaluating the derivative (including the exponent rule, product rule, quotient rule, etc.). These rules are quite confusing for new students, so I've suggested he do lots and lots of practice until it sinks in. I will try to answer questions as he comes across them. We will sit down next Tuesday for more work. As an ongoing plan, we will try to meet Tuesdays and Sundays to cover material and get thorough practice on the new material. He is doing well learning the new material, but practice will make perfect. : )"
