Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed a review assignment in preparation for his test this week over Integration and Differentiation of Logarithms, Exponentials, and Inverse Trig functions. He did very well with the memorizing of formulas. We only needed to talk about choosing the best method for a new problem."
"The student had a new chapter which involved exponential and log functions. We covered practice exercises in the book which required writing translations of these functions, interpreting a before and after translation/transformation graph and verbally describing the transformation/translation. These involves translations, reflections and stretching and compressing in both the x and y directions. I left him with five problems sets of five questions to practice. I've asked him to verbally think out loud when solving these problems to help him focus on the problem."
"Today the student completed an assessment on operations and algebraic thinking. She got 9 out of 10 questions correct. She also completed the assessment quicker than the previous because she memorized her multiplication tables. We spent time working on her homework assignment, multiplying fractions and multiplying fractions with whole numbers. She understood the concept, so I went back and taught her multiplication of greater numbers. I left her with practice problems for the following concepts, multiplication of greater number, multiplying fractions and multiplying fractions with whole numbers."
"Today we started working on rational expressions. The student had a good understanding of the basics so we worked a few more complicated problems involving complex factoring and reasoning. He progressed well through the homework problems and more complicated practice problems."
"Nice session with the student. We discussed factoring and foiling, and also reviewed his work on physics. He's learning velocity and acceleration. He has a good grasp of the material but continues to make mistakes. I'm trying to crack down hard on the habits of skipping steps and doing mental math. All in all, a lovely session."
"The student showed improvement today. She was able to fill out a 1-100 chart without any mistakes and she completed a ones and tens place value worksheet, as well. In the last few minutes, I also gave her a fact family worksheet, which she went through very quickly with minimal difficulty. The only mistakes she made was adding ones to an even 10. She was able to answer correctly when the 10 came first (e.g. 50+3) but had trouble with the reverse (e.g. 3+50). I demonstrated the commutative property of addition and she seemed able to pick it up. I will bring more worksheets to the next session."
