Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed Chapter 8. The student was able to work through many of the problems that she had missed on her test; she showed understanding of what went wrong."
"This session with the student focused on preparing for her quiz on Friday by doing practice problems from the text. The student seems to be struggling with some algebra concepts, especially those involving fractions. Part of this confusion seems to stem from stand-alone derivatives versus L'Hopital's-rule derivatives. Conceptually, she knows what to do; it's just the execution of solving the problem that seems difficult. I think working through more practice problems and identifying these weaknesses will be key moving forward."
"Today the student and I worked on integrals and finding the area under curves on a graph. We worked on the Riemann's sums as well. The student struggled with some of the concepts initially but as time went on he started to grasp the concepts and perform better. The student said that when we started his tutoring he had a 78% in his class but now has an 86%. We are meeting again on Sunday to go over this material more in depth in preparation for his upcoming exam on Tuesday as it is harder than stuff he has previously done."
"The student and I covered determinants, matrix algebra, partial fraction decomposition, and systems of nonlinear equations. She is a bit rusty on her matrices, but needed only a little help with everything else."
"We had a class study guide that we worked through together to fill out. The material was based on statistics and probabilities and included normal and binomial distributions as well as z scores. The student and I were able to answer all the questions we had time for and I think we definitely improved his understanding of some of the trickier questions. I think that if he uses the study guide and memorizes the relevant formulas that we wrote down together he should do well on his exam."
"The student and I covered function basics and solving inequalities. We identified linear and power functions and their domains and ranges. The student had a very good grasp on the material."
