Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has made great progress on Lipids, Amines, and Amides. Her exam is tomorrow and we spent time going over the review sheet. We covered naming compounds, reactions, and identifying characteristics such as boiling point and solubility. I feel that she is prepared to do well on the exam. "
"Today the student and I worked on reading comprehension. We did two different reading homework sheets. During the second reading activity there were some questions that he needed to find the information that was not included in the passage. Once he realized there could be more than one answer, he went back and re-read the question. We also worked on ABC order of his spelling words. During this time I encouraged him to "bump the margin" and make sure he always goes back to the red margin line when writing in his notebook."
"Today, the student is taking the exam. We met for a couple of hours for some last-minute studying. The first hour was devoted to math, and we went over areas of regions within other regions, the percent change formula, some data interpretation problems, evaluating expressions and determining whether they are prime of composite, representing a variable as a percent, etc. We then spent the remaining hour practicing reading comprehension, sentence equivalence, and sentence completion problems. I advised her not to get tricked into using her own knowledge on a subject but to rely only on the information given in the text. I also reminded her to read the instructions very carefully on these problems."
"Today we did a practice math section. He worked through some challenges in proportions and percentages. I'll be bringing in more practice tomorrow. We also did some more work on the reading sections. He is doing okay overall."
"Today we briefly went over Verbal, but then switched gears to talk about the Physical Science section. We went over standing waves and also discussed basic equations and concepts involved with waves (longitudinal vs. transverse, pressure waves, Doppler effect, etc.). We also talked over some questions from the AAMC practice tests."
"The student is doing well at learning Mandarin. Today, we went over the Mandarin for school supplies. The student is having a bit of difficulty recognizing Chinese characters. We will work on this more in the next session. We will also work on how to greet people in our next class."
