Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"1. Reviewed how to write proofs about segments and angles: (a) setting up proofs (b) using postulates and theorems to reason systematically from given(s) to the target conclusions. The student was assigned some problems involving proofs in order to become more comfortable reasoning/writing these as preparation for the next session."
"The student was very talkative and excited to play matching letter games. We matched upper and lower case letters. I started him on an alphabet notebook and he wrote the letter t. We did letter-keyword-sound (t-top-/t/). We also went over the names of lines for writing- sky line, plane line, flower line, worm line. Counting sets math matching sets to the number. "
"We did a number of math problems, particularly word problems. The student still makes minor mistakes. He is focused in his sessions and is interested in improving."
"The student and I got a head start on his next unit by looking over functions, including function notation, functional arithmetic and composition, and graphing. He seemed to be understanding the preview well."
"The student did very well today. We worked on worksheets and flash cards. Her printing is very nice when she focuses and takes her time. Slowly her reading is improving. She read an entire book today, something she could not do at our first session."
"We began the session by correcting a few mistakes on previous quizzes and homework assignments. The mistakes were minor, and I made sure the student understood specifically what he had gotten wrong--and how to prevent those from happening again in the future. Most of the sentences we were going over contained pronouns, so now he knows how to identify them and translate them correctly. For the remainder of the session, we translated sentences from English to Latin and vice versa, covering topics such as indirect statements, ablative absolutes, and subjunctive clauses. These types of sentences will be the majority of the written section on his trimester exam this upcoming week. He translate them well and is in good shape for his exam."
