"We worked on about half of the student's pre-calc homework, which involved factoring polynomials using the p/q rules and synthetic division. Then, we worked on her physics and continued with 2-d projectile motion and 2-d kinematics. The student seems to be understanding well."
"The student got back the scores from his first shot at the SAT, and scored a 1660. As a Junior, that's not bad per se, but I know we can bump it up. Taking the test helped to identify the kinds of questions that gave him trouble, and so we worked for several hours on confirming that hypothesis and going through, type by type, all the questions that were tricky. Great session."
"The student did not have his printouts today, but he had completed the packets I had assigned for him last time, so he asked me to help him study the material for the next packet which covers the properties of quadratic equations. He struggled with some of the practice problems, but by the end of the hour, he was doing well enough that he felt confident about completing the corresponding packet later. We wrapped up by discussing what work he needs to complete before our next session."
"We reviewed order of operations, percents, and fractions. While the student is comfortable with order of operations, reviewing operations with fractions brought on some trouble. A few weeks ago she was doing well with fractions, but moving forward we are going to continue to review these skills to end the semester."
"During this session we focused on Trigonometry. The student has an exam on Monday. We looked over some problems in the books. With the identities in front of him he was able to understand how to work through the problems. I think that if he writes down all the identities and tables to memorize the common angles he will be fine with the exam. After doing a few problems he was able to work through them with ease. He is very smart and picks up the stuff I tell him pretty fast. Overall this session was great; I saw improvement the very same day. Once he memorizes the identities he should be fine."
"This was a good lesson, covering more pages in conversation, and reviewing articles. The student had fun with this, and also practiced use of Denn and Wenn and the shifting position of verbs with these. Finally we went back to the article on Kochschule and parsed out more of Stefan Janoski's highly colloquial German."
