Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's final paper prior to submission. The paper included analyses of various problems in quality assurance and statistical process control in the healthcare field. The student conducted hypothesis testing, estimated confidence intervals and interpreted the results, created control charts and commented on process stability, and improved and conducted an Analysis of Variance. She did a great job and provided strong discussion points in her paper."
"The student and I are continuing to prepare him for his final exam. Today we did a review of his first exam, and carefully parsed each question so he can increase his skill level at determining which type of statistical test to use for which problem. We broke out the IV's, DV's, sample sizes, degrees of freedom, means and standard deviations. We compared z-tests to t-tests. We compared different types of t-tests. We compared chi-square and correlation to hypothesis testing with t-tests and ANOVA. He is very good at calculating formulas (i.e., placing the proper value into the formula and computing it to get the correct value for the test statistic) but he gets very uncertain about determining which test to use in the first place. Today we made significant progress in this area!"
"We went over the PowerPoint slides for the student's presentation tomorrow. She wanted help specifically with how to present her hypotheses. She also worked on an optional homework assignment as well as some study for her final exam."
"The student had her questions pre-loaded and a lot of them were already answered. We discussed some of the methodology for two-sample inference, both independent and paired. Everything went smoothly. We will meet later this week, likely for the last time as her final is coming soon."
"We talked about a variety of statistics topics and mainly focused on hypothesis testing for a mean. We worked through a couple of practice exams."
"The student and I reviewed a take-home assignment that he had and I walked him through how to do the types of problems and the theory behind them. For our next sessions, we will be focusing on review for the final exam in the course."
