Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed Spanish vocab and grammar. For the most part, I see her grasping the concepts better. She needs help with pronunciation and being careful when answering. When pressed to consider wrong answers, misspellings, or grammatical/conjugation errors, she can usually figure out where she went wrong. We now need to work on making sure those errors don't happen in the first place."
"Today, we started on the subjunctive mood in Spanish by expressing our opinions, doubts, and wishes and how to identify whether to use the indicative or subjunctive. The student is to try to complete some exercises dealing with this. Also, to improve listening, I gave the student a video link to transcribe over the weekend."
"The student was in a pretty good mood today once we got started. Mom sat in on the session again, which is working out well because I'm able to give her tips for what to do on her own to help him. Today, we focused on reading a bilingual story and decoding context clues. I also reviewed question words, such as "donde?" and "cuando?" by asking him questions about the story. This is what his teacher recommended, since his classes will be focusing on summarizing and answering the who/what/when/where/why questions in complete sentences in Spanish."
"We covered what our expectations and goals were. I established the students' level of comfort and some of their areas of weakness. We also discussed how we will learn the material more effectively."
"We're dedicating more time to Math. We are doing exercises, including problems with counting, addition, and subtraction. Every exercise is in Spanish. We are also still covering the spelling words."
"The communicative goals for today were to review vocabulary terms, listen to an auditory cd, read two dialogues from chapter 1 and chapter 2, and define verbs in Spanish and English. I stressed the importance of stem and infinitive in Spanish. The class went very well and the students enjoyed the lesson and PowerPoint presentation."
