Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered AP Calculus sample questions. We went over area, volume, derivatives, and regions. I reviewed technical aspects of integration on the calculator, including how to use absolute value to your advantage. We also graphed functions and manipulated ellipses."
"The student has a midterm exam tomorrow, so in this session we went through an entire practice exam. We made a study sheet that contains all of the major formulas and concepts that will be covered for the student to study before the midterm. The student was able to answer most of the questions once she had a push in the right direction. We have one more session before the midterm exam in which I will try to make sure she can do the problems on her own without any assistance."
"The student and I covered rates of change, derivatives, and second derivatives. We reviewed how to find derivatives algebraically and by using a table of values. We also covered how to identify the graphs of first and second derivatives."
"During this session, prime quadratic fraction decomposition was reviewed by completing homework on the topic."
"The student and I reviewed the one problem he had trouble with on the assignment he was to do for me. We then reviewed what anti-derivatives are and he was able to successfully complete the problems that I gave him. On Sunday, we will review his notes for the substitution problems that he will have in class tomorrow, so we will probably have a longer session, as we will also start reviewing for his test on Friday."
"We covered the rules of basic integration like the Power Rule, the Multiplicative Constant Rule, the Exponent Rule, and the Sum or Difference Rule. I showed the student where these rules came from by taking the derivative of the right-hand side of each rule to show that you would end up with what you started with in the integer and he quickly picked up on the rules by doing about a dozen problems with an occasional arithmetic mistake (which I warned him to check for on quizzes and tests)."
