Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I had the student write an ISEE lower-level type essay. His main challenges were brainstorming the topic and executing what he intended. His writing style, spelling, and grammar are quite good. I will work with him in the future on coming up with essay ideas and how to brainstorm an essay topic."
"We worked on problems involving transformations of functions, composition of functions, and finding the domain of a function. I had to help her with factoring a quadratic equation. The student is working really hard and I know that she is going to pass her class!!"
"The concepts we discussed were: posture, breathing, speaking v. singing, glottal attacks, efficient use of the voice v. overpressurizing. I assigned specific warm ups: [r] rolls, lip trills (these can be a challenge), voiced v. unvoiced consonants, "smearing" the voice. Strategies: book on stomach for lower diaphragmatic breathing; speak the text like reading to a child, pass the air between consonants and vowels. We will continue to work on Ikaw by Sharon Cuneta. The student has a lovely vibrato when she sings and a nice range to work with as well."
"In this session, we went over the student's review for his next test on polar coordinates and imaginary numbers. We went over various computations with using DeMoivre's Theorem, graphing polar equations, and geometric interpretations of complex numbers. He has a pretty strong background with the material, and I just showed him a few tips and tricks on how to do these problems efficiently to save time on his test. He now has a firm grasp on this material, and should do excellent on his next test."
"The student and I worked on vocabulary. He did a great job of both knowing the words we had worked on as well as using the strategies that we had talked about in our earlier sessions. I was very pleased with his work!"
"We finished the period of the physical pendulum problem, which took quite a while. Then we worked on the student's final presentation problem, the decaying orbit of a satellite. This was probably our last session, so I wished her well."
