Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight, the student began working on a class project over the history and significance of trigonometry. I was able to provide her with some basic information on which to begin building, as well as some research tips and general motivational help."
"Today's session went really well. We spent the first 40 minutes talking and working on reviewing for his upcoming final in two weeks on trig and chem, but he wanted to wait until next weekend before we continued reviewing the material, so we spent the rest of the time working on calculus. We specifically worked on chain rule and implicit differentiation. He is doing very well in all subjects, and we are working on calculus to help make it easier when he takes the subject in school. He always has a great attitude during our session. I left him a few practice problems from this session. We talked, and after his finals, he is going to start doing more homework on calculus to ensure that he learns the material very well."
"This week we have started with textbook homework which is about trigonometric identities. There are specific problems assigned in her homework she has solved all in her notebook while I was observing. She has done all problems correctly. She will be taking SAT math next week. She has started with the new practice test and finished in 20 min. Then we corrected the test together. I have shown some test-taking strategies to her so that she can save time during the test."
"The student had 2 worksheets from her textbook. First I reviewed and explained the example. Then we did the first problem together. She attempted the next problem on her own, but struggled. So I walked her through the strategies and steps again. She attempted the next problem by herself. Again she had difficulty but not with the concept . She had difficulty understanding the word problem. I reviewed the steps of solving a word problem and she was able to complete the specific problem and the rest of the worksheet on her own. The second worksheet was to write the information from a ratio table as an ordered pair, and then graph. Once again I walked her through the steps of the example. She was more receptive to this concept and was able to complete the second worksheet on her own. She has a chapter test tomorrow, so we reviewed chapter 1 which involved the concepts of factors and multiples, and ratios and rate."
"The student and I reviewed infinite arithmetic and geometric series for her test tomorrow. The questions we worked on covered a wide range of problems and approaches to solve those problems. She demonstrated great understanding of the material and was able to follow the steps easily even when we moved at a quicker pace through problems. She should review recursive definitions of sequences and finding the sum of a convergent geometric series before her test."
"Concepts Covered: 1) Finding slope based on the derived definition, 2) Finding slope based on the derivative of a function, 3) Finding the average value over a given interval, 4) Finding the equation of a tangent line to a curve, and 5) I also covered an AP Calculus review packet for a class test."
