Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We briefly discussed what the students can expect from both the test and the tutoring process before we began a comprehensive survey of the English section. They performed exercises correcting sentences in terms of punctuation, grammatical voice, proper use of parts of speech, and proper rhetoric. Both students were engaged throughout and indicated their understanding of the relevant concept before we moved on. More clarification needed on some topics than others, but by the time we finished, both students demonstrated the ability to identify correct and incorrect use of each grammar rule tested by the ACT. Will continue next week incorporating context and principles of composition."
"The student brought several types of questions that he had struggled with to me today. We concentrated on main idea and author's tone and perspective within critical reading today. We looked at several different passages and practiced my "summary rules" to work our way to the best answer. We also looked at different strategies to examine tone in fiction versus science passages."
"Our session was strong. We began with the style book covering the various uses of commas, semicolons, and colons with conjunctions, dependent, and independent clauses as well as appositives and participial phrases. After a review, we broke the English section down into four 8 min 45 sec units. We then proceeded to both complete certain units aloud and review answers."
