" I love algebra, calculus, and everything in between, and it shows in my work. My mom tutors, and I picked up my first client from her in ninth grade. Since then, I've worked with students from eighth grade to adults returning to the classroom, students struggling to pass to students wanting to attend (and getting into!) Ivy League schools. Most students come to me for math, but I've also worked with standardized test preparation, chemistry, biology, Spanish, grammar and writing, economics, statistics, and time management. Two families still hire me when I visit home for Christmas break and over the summer. Math and science classes are ...

I studied biomedical engineering for my first three years of college, so I have a very strong background in math and science. I also have a minor in math. When I graduated from college, I was accepted into Teach For America, an organization dedicated to solving educational inequity in America. " I understand that a lot of students have various difficulties in school, but most of them boil down to a small number of causes which are completely fixable. The two which I try to isolate in my tutoring sessions are the fact that Math and Economics seem COMPLICATED and BORING to students. Math is complex and overwhelms a number of students. Many students get a problem incorrect before they even begin to work towards the answer simply because they freak out after reading it. I remember back before I learned one little precept by which I now live my life, I used to stare at some Math problems and think "How will I ever solve this, it is impossible!" ...

"I am also an avid cellist. I have been tutoring since my junior year in high school (6 years tota) and love teaching at all levels. I have a composite 2180 SAT and 34S MCAT score and received all "4/5"s on 7 different AP exams and was listed on Rice University's "President's Honor Roll". I know how hard and stressful it is to take standardized exams, as I myself have gone through it all, and this has motivated me to want to help make the process easier for those who are going through it. I am also very knowledgeable with college and medical school applications and will be happy to help go through the entire process and review essays." ...

" Before my fellowship at Rice, I worked at a small start-up company in Massachusetts where my research in nano-technology culminated in several patents for promising device architectures. While at Northeastern University, I had the  pleasure of tutoring first and second-year students in calculus, general physics, and modern physics.  I also had the opportunity to tutor  high school students in mathematics (algebra, geometry, and statistics) while in my senior year.  As an active participant in the process of developing skills necessary for critical thinking and discovery, I find the process of tutoring others to be a ...

"This led me to become fascinated with how people learn, and how learning systems can be designed to help them succeed at every step along the way. My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics, at any level through calculus. During college I tutored a variety of subjects, from arithmetic to the SAT and the MCAT. I am good at explaining and breaking things down in multiple ways -- words, pictures, analogies -- to make concepts clear. Currently I am in my 3rd year of medical school at UT Houston. Because of my school schedule, I am primarily available for tutoring on the weekends.." ...

"I have tutored for years now and I recently graduated in May 2011. I am fresh out of college so I am fully capable of communicating the problems in terms most people can understand. I have a strong passion for math and nothing feels better then watching someone learn it. My favorite subject of all time is Calculus.
