Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over more math section practice tests. He is continuing to do very well (18/20 and 18/18) and we still have 2 more sessions before the test to tie up any loose ends or concerns he might be having. Overall, it appears he is getting more and more prepared and really getting used to the questions that might show up on the exam."
"The student and I went over her prompts from the previous week. We did argument/example choice brainstorming drills and examined different techniques for creative essay writing. We also practiced making arguments and supporting paragraphs more succinct and time-efficient. We worked on turning abstract ideas (happiness, difficulty, etc.) into concrete illustrative phrases. Finally, we looked at the multiple-choice section of the writing test and discussed time-saving techniques. Her writing and confidence in her test-taking abilities have both noticeably improved. She feels shaky on the multiple-choice so our plan is to devote more time to that going forward."
"The student and I reviewed functions, including domain and SAT function notation. Then we started geometry review, including lines, interior angles, alternate angles, parallel lines, triangles, and trig ids. The student did very well with the review concepts so we will continue to review all of the topics to make sure that he's comfortable with all of the math on the SAT but we'll focus on the more advanced problems at his grade level. His homework is to read 15 pages per day, keep track of any vocabulary words he doesn't know on a sheet of paper, and get an SAT prep book for math review homework for next week."
