Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through a worksheet she had from class on related rates. The calculus/implicit differentiation were not giving her much trouble, but she demonstrated uncertainty about how to set up the equations to differentiate given the prompt of the problem. We will continue to go over this."
"During this session, the student prepared for her upcoming math, which will cover linear and non linear graphs, proportionality, slope intercept form of a line, and graphing. Her teacher is allowing a cheat sheet to be used on the exam, so I assisted in the process of determining what information and definitions should be included. After this, I had the student complete several example problems of material that she will be tested on."
"I reviewed quadratics, graphing, and quadratic equations for Student 1's quarter-final on Thursday. He is incredibly confident now in using the quadratic formula and knowing which strategy to use when solving each equation. I also helped Student 2 with her social science homework, in which she had to memorize certain historical facts for a walk through history class activity on Thursday."
"Continued studying for a test on derivatives. Completed the 10 suggested review problems provided by the teacher and then spent the rest of the session drawing distance and acceleration graphs for given velocity graphs. Topics included approximation using linearization; the definition of the derivative; the chain, product, and quotient rules; and derivatives of period, exponential, and logarithmic functions."
"The student was having a hard time working with decimals, so we went over multiplying, adding, subtracting, and dividing decimals. She understands the difference between adding/subtracting and multiplying decimals."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming test. We also covered a few time saving tricks dealing with complex numbers. She has a test next week, and we plan on meeting over the weekend to prepare her on content, as well as going over some test taking techniques."
