"The student had had a hard time digesting converting from one form of a quadratic to another. I made her a little one page study guide outlining what each form looks like and the important aspects of each and how the numbers related to each other. I thought this might help her identify what important information we would need to convert to any given form. It did, as she picked up on converting to vertex form from both standard and factored forms. We spent the rest of the time going over step by step how to go from standard to factored form. She seemed much more confident at the end of our session."
"Today, we went over adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals and integers. We started with some basic practice problems and addressed any issues the student had with those. Then, we moved on to complex number sentences and solving for x. She did very well with multiplying and diving and struggled with adding and subtracting integers. We ended with more practice adding and subtracting integers to make sure she understood the concepts."
"First, I gave a learning style quiz to the student in order to determine her preferred learning style. Then, I gave her a worksheet to work on with exercises from G5-G6 Mathematics. She pointed out that she was struggling with concepts like coordinates, plotting points in a coordinate grid, integers, and absolute values. We worked on some exercises provided by her, using different strategies to teach the 4 quadrants and the coordinates in the two axis grid (kinesthetic and visual strategies). In the case of integers, we used examples from real life to understand this concept (like temperatures). She was able to complete all the work with evident improvement. I left her 2 exercises on integers for extra practice. She had a positive attitude during the whole session."
"The student has made a lot of progress - he scored 29/29 on his last test! We worked on rates, which he'd gotten the hang of during class, and reviewed division with fractions and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. He's getting the hang of things quickly, and I'm impressed by his progress."
"The student and I worked on perimeter versus area today. She did an amazing job finding area using the area model. Next session, she will perform a performance task based on area and perimeter. Excellent job!"
"We covered derivatives of inverse trigonometric functions, logarithms, and exponential functions. We worked through a lot of practice problems covering those topics to increase familiarity with the formulas needed. We used problems from the student's book then worked on problems from online math notes. We also covered how to determine whether or not an inverse function exists and how to find the value of its derivative. Overall, it was a great session."
