Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed how the final went, and the student said it was all right and she was able to keep her B in the class. We worked on some questions she had from the homework and the current homework problems. Most of them were still focusing on graphing, which we covered before the final."
"Today, I brought worksheets to practice what the student struggled with on Tuesday. I also brought a 100 question packet for him to complete over the break."
"During this session, I helped the student complete his homework on composition of function and finding and solving for given values of the inverse of functions. In addition, we reviewed graphing the inverses of functions. I showed him how inverse functions are reflected over the line of y=x and also how you could pick two points on one graph and check to see whether or not the reverse order of those points is located on the other graph in order to quickly eliminate options when given a multiple choice problem. We also completed a review problem on factoring of higher level polynomials that involved the difference of cubes."
"The student really started to grasp fractions better this session. This is a huge win and something I'm going to keep working on with him. He is a bit confused with what he is currently learning in class, and I will have a lot of practice for him next session to clear up some of that confusion."
"The student needed help with some hypothesis testing. We worked on determining if a problem is a proportion or a mean problem. We also covered--How to tell if it is a z-test or t-test mean problem (proportions are ALWAYS z-tests). Calculating P-Values (specifically for a 2-sided test). How to check the independence condition of mean and proportion hypothesis tests. The meaning of power of the test, and how changing your alternative value can increase or decrease the power of the test. We covered these topics using specific problems from her homework set. We were able to cover all the topics she was confused about. She told me she is doing well in the class."
"We are continuing to prepare for the student's pre-algebra final. Today, we worked more on fractions (focusing on multiplication and division), word problems that use fractions, and converting from fractions to decimals. We also worked on statistics, going over how to find mean, median, range, and mode. The student understands how to find these. She has a review sheet for the final, which she is sending me so we can go over it in detail tomorrow."
