Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Based on his excellence and the studying that we did, the student scored above 100% on his last two exams. In this session, he and I worked on reading fluency, comprehension, and inferences about character motivations and the significance of their actions. We also worked on his lab on the concept of natural selection by answering reflection questions based on the experiment that he conducted in class. I left him to complete his Spanish homework."
"The student and I reviewed the next portion of the History chapter he is working on in school now. We read and discussed the material together and then the student wrote a short essay based on it. He did very well on the essay -- he was able to structure it on his own and transition properly from paragraph to paragraph. We then did a few worksheets on compound vs. simple sentences. He did better on the exercises where he had to write his own sentences as opposed to fixing errors in already written sentences."
"The student and I discussed her book selections for this upcoming quarter. I assigned her some basic homework to get started: a summary of each chapter, a description of the main character and one supporting character, and the definition and syllable break-down of any unfamiliar vocabulary words. After this, I had the student read out loud from Laura Ingalls Wilder's book, "Farmer Boy." The student followed along very well with the flow and tone of the book. We reviewed the basic function of nouns and I had her grammatically analyze some sentences from today's reading. We also discussed some basic strategies for her upcoming exams, specifically the process of keeping track of difficult or skipped-over questions in order to review them at the end of the exam."
