Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I continued with microevolution and the mechanisms in which populations evolve. I brought a worksheet that allowed him to test his knowledge of these mechanisms, and he did really well! I hope that reinforcing the definitions of these terms will allow him to understand test questions and make insightful inferences on test day. I also brought some practice Hardy-Weinberg practice questions, and we worked through them together. He did well at understanding when to use the two equations, and I believe with a little more practice he will ace those questions on his test. Overall, he seems to have firm grasp on evolutionary concepts. I am planning on emailing him some more practice for the weekend."
"The student and I reviewed algebra 2, specifically multiplying and dividing polynomials in preparation for his test tomorrow."
"The student and I reviewed for her test in chemistry. The test was over stoichiometric, acid base reactions, combustion, combination and decomposition reactions. She seemed to get the concepts as I explained them to her."
"During this session the student and I went in depth through the processes of glycolysis, the citrate cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and the two processes of photosynthesis. We did this mostly by drawing out a diagram showing how each of these work. Going through and physically drawing out the process seemed to help her greatly in her understanding."
"In this session we worked several problems that the student supplied in the area of collisions and the laws of conservation of momentum and energy. No issues at this time. She is making good progress in preparing for the AP exam."
"This was another good problem set. The topics covered were revolving mostly around the 2nd law of thermodynamics. We did a lot of math with entropy, quality, work, heat and specific volume, with a little enthalpy in there. The student got a 91 on her first exam, which in the world of thermodynamics is crazy high. That is definitely a notable win."
