Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on state assessment practice reading passages (context clues, infer/ drawing conclusions), state assessment math practice, and reviewed her homework (equivalent fractions and comparing fractions with unlike denominators). I gave her a tip for figuring out elapsed time."
"The student reviewed words using the er, ir, and ur, sounds. She also completed a worksheet to practice identifying words that were spelled correctly versus incorrectly. Also, we reviewed a strategy for adding numbers and solving for missing numbers (use a number line). She shows an eagerness to demonstrate what she has learned in school. Actions steps include having her read for 20 minutes continue to practice methods for adding and subtracting (including math games)."
"The student worked on a piece of writing homework that he had. He had to use a primary document to answer a series of questions and use evidence from the document to support his claims. After a discussion of what the document can reveal to us, he was able to answer these questions successfully. During our discussion, he did become very literal and having him dig into the implicit meaning and determining the perspective of the document took more time to develop. In the end, he was thinking more critically."
"On Tuesday we reviewed the student's spelling words for the week, reviewed nouns and verbs, and read a book on alligators and crocodiles. We also worked with video games focused on grammar and sentence structure. He seems to like using these on the iPad."
"Today there was no reading homework so I helped the student with science. Luckily there were still lessons to be taught about reading within his science. We also reviewed some assignments he was allowed to correct and return."
"Today, the student and I worked on preparing for the ethics final. There are many complicated and challenging ideas to grapple with and she and I worked to both take in the information which she had worked with quite well prior to the test, and to give the answers back in ways that are clear and concise. These are challenging by the nature of the subjects, but she did an excellent job."
