Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the TCP/IP and OSI layers in detail. We also reviewed flow control, retransmission, go back in, selective reject, and repeat in detail. He was catching up with the OSI layers. He was motivated to learn the topic."
"This session, we finished Chapter 9 by looking into the math functions floor, ceil(ing), and round. We also explored Boolean variables and values, and the Boolean operators: AND, OR, and NOT. Next week, we will change things up a little by exploring mobile app development using MIT App Inventor 2, which allows you to create Android apps."
"We reviewed the midterm a bit and then went into the next assignment. We covered reading from a file into an array. I helped the student to find the root cause of the problem when working with delimiters while reading from files. He will work on it further on his own and get some direction from the teacher before we meet next time."
"We worked through a range of technical issues relating to the student's web design project. He is still new to Illustrator, and needed affirmation that he is solving the technical and design problems in the ways required by the rules of the assignment. He is adapting well to Illustrator, and has become fluent in a range of basic Illustrator functions, such as placing, grouping, and transforming objects. We worked through how to embed images within files, copying elements from one file and adapting all designed elements to the grid, incorporating hierarchy into the design, and balancing the overall composition to be functional and harmonious. He will be working on translating his thumbnail designs to the artboard for each platform, and subsequently will be adding color from the style guide he created in an earlier section of the assignment. We will then reconvene and work through next steps, while refining the design where needed."
"The student and I spent the first half of this session getting to know each other. We discussed general topics that she needs help with, the basics of her computer knowledge, the basics of her company (so that we can cater learning to her specific needs), and the overall questions she has. We then jumped right in with learning how to create folders and move files into new folders. Our main focus of today was unzipping files received in emails. Next week we will focus on zipping folders and sending them via email, as well as email signatures and other related settings. She was very successful in learning how to create new folders. She has made progress with unzipping files and I left her with notes on how to do it step-by-step. I am looking forward to meeting with her next week!"
"The student showed me what she was interested in learning in regards to importing photos from her phone. Her desktop computer had many photos on it, and her laptop didn't have any. We eventually imported the photos onto her laptop. For the next session we'll work with putting all of these photos on the cloud and go over how to edit photos."
