Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In the session, we went over his homework assignment in detail so I could be sure he would understand every concept. The front page of his assignment involved finding the slope of a line given a graph of the line. I explained to him that slope is "rise over run" and worked through two or three problems with him so that he would get a hang of it. He immediately took over and completed all the problems on the front page. He then worked on the back page which was the same concept but we were given only two coordinates of points that lied on a line. He had to find the slope of the lines given these two points. He completed the whole assignment in the allotted time."
"Today we went over some questions the student had attempted on his own, and determined Geometry, Algebra word problems, operations with fractions and solving linear equations to be some of the subjects that we need to work on. He was advised to solve tests alternating from the official SAT guide."
"The student and I met up tonight. We discussed the difference in electric potential across an electric field. We also practiced using formulas to compare gravitational force to the magnitude of electromagnetic force. We worked with changing currents and resistors and how they affect power and voltage in a circuit."
"We reviewed a past exam in preparation for an upcoming chemistry exam. We reviewed redox reactions, calculating oxidation numbers, acid base reactions, weak acids and electrolytes, enthalpy of reactions, equations solving for molarity, grams per mole, etc."
"Finding the area between two curves and/or the x or y axis and using that to solve for the volumes between curves using the disk, washer, and shell methods; talked briefly about the arc length of curves using integrals."
"The student and I covered Logic Games intensively today, focusing on the set ups for games that had given her trouble in the past. She has great fundamental skills, but needs some support for timing. We talked about the number of correct answers she needs to get the score she wants and talked about general strategy for how to get her from a 152 to the 160 she wants to apply to schools."
