Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered and practiced the distributive property and dividing fractions. The student seemed to have them down pat by the end of the session. I also suggested methods on how to make studying more interesting (for his English and Biology classes). He could study in different places and use different colored pens/pencils so that facts can stick with him based on locations or colors. For next session, I asked him to get dates for when his next English, Biology, and Algebra exams/quizzes would be. "
"The student and I went over her homework, which had a couple mistakes in the easy areas of the homework, but she did very well with the harder concepts. We went over basic area today, and she did well. We will be going over surface area next time we meet. She is making great progress."
"I quizzed the student on Chapter 10 (angles, arcs, and circles) focusing on the new sections. We also went over all the problems she got wrong in her packet to make sure she knew how to do them."
"The student and I went over a long reading passage and I told him strategies for skimming through the passage to save some time. I also let him know that whenever the questions asks for something in a specific line that it is pretty cut-throat and direct about what they are looking for. We went over general tactics to tackle the tests such as the first 40 method for the math questions, and the no penalty for guessing on questions when there is no time left."
"Reviewed entire unit on intermolecular forces (including: ionic and covalent bonding, electronegativity, dipoles, hydrogen bonds, cohesion, adhesion, and heating curves). Began unit on gases (Gay-Lussac's law, Charle's law, Boyle's law, and the combined gas law)."
"We talked about taxes and about the student's job that he finds rather boring. We then worked further in his book, reviewing indefinite articles on page 58-59, then looking at demonstrative articles dieser and jener, etc., derselbe and derjenige, then personal and reflexive pronouns at the start of chapter 7. Then we reviewed the conversation on page 37 of Conversation, and worked through Ex. 4.2. Lastly, we read and translated more of the article on Weitsprung mit Prothese."
