"I worked as a middle and high school classroom teacher for six years. I earned a Master’s of Science in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Environmental Education, and I am currently working as the Education Coordinator for a non-profit organization. There I develop curriculum and provide professional development to educators. I very much enjoy my tutoring positions and have found them to be rewarding, both for me and for my students. The majority of my clients come to me for ACT test prep, but I have tutored many other subjects, ranging from elementary language arts and SSAT/ISEE prep to Algebra II/Trigonometry and ...

For four semesters at IIT I have served as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses: Geometry for Architects, Introduction to Calculus, and Introduction to Biomedical Engineering. "In fact, I grew up learning Spanish as my first language in Lima, Peru. After getting my B.A in Elementary education, I moved to the U.S and have been working with babies, kids, teenagers and adults helping them learn Spanish. I currently teach Pre-K - 8th at a private school and I enjoy every minute of it, especially when they speak Spanish spontaneously. I believe that learning a language takes time and practice, as well as self-motivation and commitment."

"I especially enjoy high-schoolers of every level, but I have tutored students from age 6 to 35! To me, tutoring is about really getting to know each student, their strengths, and those areas of weakness that are coming between them and their highest potential. My specialties are math, essay writing and Spanish. I love algebra because it's so neat and there's always a right answer, and I enjoy helping students realize that it's more straightforward than it seems. I learned Spanish as a second language, and becoming fluent was one of the most exciting things I have ever done." ...

"Although I always thought teaching sounded exciting, it was not until I began volunteering in a third grade classroom that I was sure I wanted to pursue education as a career. Since making this decision I have had experience with students of all ages. I taught weekly lessons to 2nd and 4th graders during the first year of my program at Vanderbilt and then student taught in a fifth grade and a kindergarten. Although I enjoy teaching in all subjects, my favorites are language arts/reading, Spanish, and science."

"After spending all day at work or school, who wants to spend the afternoon doing worksheets? My philosophy is that everyone likes learning but needs a little encouragement. If I can break down the math lesson into something manageable and have fun at the same time, the student will be more likely to pick up that book on their own. The best compliment a student gave me was "I feel much more confident speaking English now than when we started." That confidence will make the student a lifelong learner and will transcend into other subjects. I am also an experienced learner! I have a degree in biochemistry and Spanish from the ...
