Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on Algebra. Specifically we worked on puzzle problems related to units. These problems involved two unknown variables. We then worked on mixed problems from past sections."
"We covered two sections from her new chapter and did practice problems from it. I also assigned her homework from the sections."
"We covered slopes, y and x -intercepts and functions. I also went over utilization of the TI-83 calculator during tests for efficiency and accuracy on slope problems."
"The student and I spent most of the session working on independent and dependent variables. With some extra practice, by the end of the session she was regularly getting questions right and could explain why it was right. We also worked on input/ output tables and isolating and solving for single variables. We looked over her grades and talked about how she could improve. Specifically, we talked about strategies for studying for algebra by doing practice problems from the book as a way to review. She did a very nice job tonight and worked hard."
"We covered an algebra project that the student had to do. I helped him to organize his information on the four topics for his book project. We went over how to solve function equations. I also helped him with vocabulary in English, and we used some software to help."
"With Student M, we worked on her review packet. She had a quiz the next day on fraction addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, so our goal was to prepare her so that she felt confident about her performance. We covered cross-multiplication, conversion from mixed numbers to improper fractions, and LCD. We worked for about an hour. With Student O, he finished his homework. He had problems involving writing mathematical expressions, equations, and inequalities from word problems and written descriptions of numbers. There were also questions on solving equations/ inequalities and review from previous sections. He had an assignment due on the Friday of next week, so I left him to complete 4 pages by the next time I see him. This way we can try to teach him good study skills such as pacing himself."
