"We did a general review of the SAT critical reading section. We went over the section in the prep book, and he did all of the practice problems. Then we did two passages from the first practice test of a different prep book. His homework is to use online resources to study for the test next week."
"The student and I first talked through the essay that she wrote on her own time. We discussed tips for writing a stronger thesis statement, tips for developing each body paragraph and compelling ways to begin and end an essay. We then worked through a writing section -- she seemed to have some difficulties with verb-preposition pairings as well as punctuation, which we covered in detail. She seemed to better understand the content and was more comfortable explaining such content to me by the end of the lesson. For example, she was able to articulate the difference between independent and dependent clauses and what punctuation is appropriate given the presence or absence of these clauses. Before next time, the student will write another essay, this time within the SAT time constraints, overview some verb-preposition pairings as well as some other commonly occurring writing mistakes that I've written up for her and will be completing a writing diagnostic section on her own time."
"We discussed the student's goals for the SAT and our prep sessions, as well as his current level of preparation. His primary concern was with multiple choice questions in the writing section, so we went over these types of questions and discussed strategies for how to approach them. He will solve one section of these problems from his practice-test book each night. He will also take a full practice SAT diagnostic so we can prioritize the topics we need to cover."
