"We started working on making passage maps for longer selections, and practiced recognizing tone and purpose from an author. We still need to work on inferences and integrating two different author's viewpoints in more detail. I left her with a little extra practice - just one more passage map and set of questions for a long reading. She's very attentive and already has a lot of useful test-taking skills, like using the process of elimination."
"Began work on SAT math after discussing colleges briefly. Taught basic approach to assessing math problems and choosing techniques. Will continue with SAT math next weekend to ensure what we worked on has been committed to memory."
"Today we reviewed the homework the student completed. WRITING - We went over questions he got wrong on the Writing section, as well as the essay he wrote. We graded the essay and started to revise it together. He will complete it for homework. MATH - The student had highlighted some problems he had skipped that he wanted help on. We reviewed these and covered the concepts of: vertical angles, isolating variables, exponent and PEMDAS rules, recognizing the need for Pythagorean Theorem, and understanding factorials and in-test definitions of such functions. NEXT MEETING - The student will review all of the questions he got wrong on this test, and edit his essay. He will review homophones to avoid errors. He will complete two more practice tests, three more if he has time. He understands the importance of reviewing his wrong answers in order to learn the most from each test."
