Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on going over a practice test I had asked him to complete at the end of the last tutorial. The test was on calculus and this one was particularly challenging. The student did very well overall on the test, with a few minor errors. He did some problems exceptionally, including a question about the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus Pt. II, which is a commonly misunderstood topic. He also did well on his derivatives and basic integration. There was a seriously difficult u substitution question which is of little consequence as to the level of difficulty which the student can expect to encounter in his upcoming semester of calculus. Another minor topic which we discussed was rational functions."
"We went over rate functions and particle motion, which incorporated optimization and graphing. Then we looked at some integral problems. We used past quizzes and exams to go over derivatives and integrals. I asked him to try some integrals on his own so I could see where he might need help."
"We discussed more function theory, including inflection points, zeros (x-intercepts), even and odd functions, and relationships between the coefficients of polynomials."
"We reviewed questions from the student's state math exam. We went over which questions he had trouble with and needed clarification for. Then, we continued reviewing the modules for expressions, like terms, equivalent expressions, simplifying expressions and determining how to state a word problem in an expression with proper variables and order of operations."
"We went over problems related to completing the square, using quadratic equation, and finding the discriminant to determine if a quadratic has real or imaginary roots."
"We continued working through sets of practice multiple choice questions from an old AP exam. The student should complete the free response section on the tests before our session tomorrow."
