Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started reading in each of the girls' new assigned material for class. They started Fahrenheit 451 and War of the Worlds, and we also brainstormed about her upcoming blog post assignment on the novel."
"This session the student and I worked on Language Arts, and began by going over his homework from the previous week. His homework was to choose a type of paragraph to write on any topic, and structure it appropriately. He chose to write an expository paragraph on The Newsies, a play/story he was learning about in school. We worked through the paragraph and talked about how each sentence should build on the previous, as well as what sentence order made the most logical sense. We also talked about strengthening topic/introduction sentences. After working on writing, we covered punctuation and when and where to use periods in abbreviations, initials, and in dialogue. We also worked on where and when to capitalize words in dialogue that is broken up within a sentence or paragraph."
"Tonight we completed several reading sections. The student worked incredibly diligently, reading through both stories and not stopping during either, this was very impressive. As we talked about the stories afterwards he was able to engage in the questions as well. For homework, I left him the Harry Houdini book with practice questions I would like him to finish after every chapter. The chapters are short so I hope he can complete several a day."
